Dr. Emilie Schmidt, PT, DPT, ATC, CSCS

Owner / Performance Physical Therapist

Dr. Emilie Schmidt, PT, DPT, SCS, ATC, CSCS founded Invictus Physical Therapy & Sports Performance, LLC after many years helping elite-level athletes and servicemembers, seeking to provide the same level of interdisciplinary sports medicine care to the general public. Her philosophy involves focusing on the entire body, finding the root cause of the problem, and implementing personalized strategies to help her clients achieve their physical performance goals.

Dr. Schmidt earned a bachelor's degree with honors in neuroscience from Trinity College in Hartford, CT, and both her master’s degree and her doctorate degree in Physical Therapy from Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine. She is a Board-Certified Specialist in Sports Physical Therapy (SCS), a Certified and Licensed Athletic Trainer (ATC), and a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). She holds active licenses to practice physical therapy in Maine, North Carolina, Virginia, Florida, and California.

Dr. Schmidt began her physical therapy career in the acute care and outpatient orthopedics settings with a specialty in sports medicine, while at the same time working as an athletic trainer in various high school and collegiate settings. She transitioned to a career serving the military population as a civilian physical therapist working extensively with combat-trauma orthopedic injuries, including developing and implementing return-to-readiness programming for active-duty amputees at Naval Medical Center San Diego. She later worked within the Veteran's Health Administration in outpatient orthopedics, as well as several sports-medicine orthopedic clinics throughout the country until relocating back to North Carolina.

Dr. Schmidt went on to serve as Task Lead/Tactical Physical Therapist and Athletic Trainer for the United States Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command (MARSOC) Human Performance and Resiliency Program, assigned to 3d Marine Raider Battalion aboard Camp Lejeune, NC. In this role, she was a plank-holder for the inaugural human performance program in the Marine Corps, responsible for contract oversight and program development that has served as the bedrock for many military and tactical human performance programs across the country.

Since leaving her role at MARSOC, Dr. Schmidt has served as a subject matter expert consultant for several government contract companies in the fields of human performance and hospital credentialing.

Dr. Schmidt's work on shoulder injuries and rehabilitation has been published in several professional sports medicine textbooks. In addition, her work was instrumental in advising the United States Marine Corps to revise the physical fitness standards for the USMC to reduce low-back injury risk and improve mission readiness across the entire service. The changes have not only been implemented across the Marine Corps, but also across sister services to include the Naval Academy, United States Army, and the United States Air Force.

Emilie recently returned to her home state of Maine, after having spent the last 20+ years moving across the country in support of her Marine Corps spouse. She was a collegiate athlete, playing both soccer and sailing while at Trinity. She has run several marathons, and is actively involved in the Brunswick youth soccer program, as well as community running groups.
